Concerts!

So, there haven't been many concerts this summer (and actually, this whole year) that I've wanted to attend. But when I heard Tim Mcgraw was coming to Fresno I had to go. It's not that country is exactly my favorite genre, although I have been listening to it more often lately... it's that I pretty much grew up listening to Tim Mcgraw. My mom was OBSESSED when I was a kid. Haha. I know all the songs, which makes for a pretty fun time at any concert. Anywho, it was May 25th at the Savemart Center in Fresno. Lady Antebellum was playing too, and I'd say they are some of the best new artists in country. Sometimes I hear their song played on B95. Wierdly awesome. It was a pretty good concert, Tim is a good performer. Hannah and I had fun getting lost in Fresno when she suddenly had a whipped creme craving. We ended up at Denny's around 1am, where Hannah got into a conversation with 60 year old ladies about how hot Tim Mcgraw is. Then we got lost somewhere in Tulare around 2am on the way home and had to stop at a Wendy's to ask for directions. The Wendy's looked open since all the lights were on, but the drive thru was blocked off by a big truck so we had to go in. When we walked in everything was covered in plastic and there was a guy walking around in a janitorial-looking uniform. I say "excuse me" but he just keeps walking around. So me and Hannah literally stand there for about 2 minutes when I cough and he turns around and says "holy ^&*% you scared me!" even though we were in plain sight the whole time. This guy had a very odd vibe about him and his eyes were such a light blue that they were almost white. Me and hannah realized then he had a device in his hand and was spraying for bugs. Yum. He told us he wasn't from around here as he twitched, but did the best to give us directions which ultimately sent us the wrong way again. Eventually we did make it home though, otherwise I wouldn't be on my computer making this blogpost.

The next concert I went to was Kings of Leon in Irvine of July 14th. It was in a greek ampitheater-styled venue. This was the first major concert I'd been to outside, which I have to say I'd recommend, but not necessarily in the middle of a July heatwave. The only downside to an outside venue other than the seasonal heat, is that I prefer my music LOUD like when you're at an inside venue where you feel the base drum in your chest and you feel that your eardrums are about to burst. This is not the case with an outside venue. We got a late start to Irvine, thanks to me having to work that day. We were going to stop for food before we got there but my mom didn't want to be late and rushed us. When we got there we had been driving on empty for 18 miles and we were starving. (This is her favorite band we are talking about). When we got inside the venue I was happy to finally be able to eat, that was until I realized I had left my wallet about a mile away in the car. Not only did I not like the idea of walking across asphalt in the heat for my wallet, but I was also unable to do so because there was no re-entry into the venue. This is where I had an "FML" moment. That same moment is where I saw the giant hillside we would have to climb to get to the venue, where the lawn seats were. Thankfully, I have a bestfriend named Hannah who offered to buy me food (aka a 6 dollar tiny pizza). I love her.

I must say that when I did finally get to the lawn seats it was pretty cool (here I use "cool" as a way to describe something awesome), sitting on our blanket looking at the stadium with the sun setting. It was comfy and the grass was cool (here I use cool to describe the temperature of an object). One thing I had forgotten about Irvine; college town. Once I was sitting on the lawn, I looked around and realized what I was surrounded by. Promiscuous college girls in teeny-tiny middrift shirts, 4 inch heels, and skirts ment for toddlers... twenty-something year old guys with beers in each hand and hustler tshirts on. Yay. I look down at my McBeth high tops and my Family Values tshirt and laugh. Then I look back over at the college kids and laugh again, glad to not be a college kid. Then I have an epiphany- I am a college kid! Wierd right? I am no longer in highschool. But I am a different type of college kid, for that I am grateful. Once the sun went down little red dots started to spring up everywhere at the sound of lighters clicking. Then the smell hit me. Disssgusting. Haha. As the night goes on I see drunk girls falling down the hillside (literally) as they squeal and hug eachother with slurred words, stoned guys stumbling after them. That's when I realized these kids were there to party, not for the music. And again I was grateful to be different.

In the end the concert ended up being pretty awesome. At one point a guitarist played the whole song "closer" with his mouth! The lead singer kinda had a fit in the middle of the concert and stormed off stage, but he ended up coming back and finishing the show, making it a drama filled night! Kings of Leon are great live, not exactly "high energy" but they definately put on a show. The pyrotechnics were cool. If you ever go to a show at the Verizon Ampitheater in Irvine, I recommend at least getting terrace seats, because everyone in the lawn section is just there to party, the people in the seats are there for the concert. Although, if you buy lawn seats and the terrace isn't sold out the day of the show, you can upgrade to terrace for only 10 bucks. You're call! Once the concert was over we had to wait in the parking lot for an hour, till all the cars left since our gas tank was completely empty and we couldn't idle in line or the car would die. We got to a gas station fine, but ended up having to take a detour and got lost in Compton at 1 in the morning. Awesome. It was all worth it to see KOL live though. All in all, I may have only gone to two concerts this summer, but it's the quality and not the quantity that counts, right?
